Parenthood is an exciting, confusing, rewarding, infuriating, isolating, and community-building experience. Through writing about my experiences and reactions to parenting-related articles, I aim to foster a sense of inquiry and inclusion rather than to promote any sort of ideal or philosophy. After all, most of us are just flying by the seat of our pants, doing what works and what feels right.

Increasing Tongue Tie-Lip Tie Awareness

Maybe I was all wrong about how to increase awareness about tongue tie and lip tie.  My academic perspective, of course, thinks that we need to start with pediatricians, OB/GYN nurses, and lactation consultants.  Of course, that would be nice, but there are plenty of practicing pediatric dentists who have this knowledge.

This morning as I was scrolling through my facebook feed, I saw this ad that a pediatric dentist placed in Charlotte, NC, shared originally by Carol Bowman Russell on the Tongue Tie Babies Facebook page:

Imagine if all the qualified (well-trained) pediatric dentists who are doing this work advertised their services -- that would probably do way more to quickly impact awareness than attempting to change the arcane system of academia from the back end.
